In 2018 we released the book “Third Culture Kids” together with the publishing company Ordfront in Sweden. The book came to be a manifesto for an identity lost between different worlds, the feeling of rootlessness constantly being up-close, and the feeling of that belonging is not self-evident. Stories that are for us and of us, of those who can not or do not want to conform to one or the other culture.
Third Culture Kids is a term that was coined in the 1950s as an expression of children to missionaries or ambassadors who grew up in a culture other than their own. We championed that expression and concept and applied it to express what our generation and peers felt. Those who had received a special cultural intelligence thanks to the expanded world image of being refugees, the million program housings, recreational halls and city districts. Places where exposure to different perceptions and ways of life is great.
The book Third Culture Kids contains photos, texts and expressions from a number of third culture kids who in various ways have been educated into a society that was not theirs from the beginning. The book was well received with exhibitions, book fair talks, a tour around Sweden and an identity call that is present until this very day.
